Celebrating 100 Years of Community: Hanley Economics’ Enduring Legacy in Stoke-on-Trent

As Hanley Economic Building Society celebrates 100 years of Stoke-on-Trent’s city status, it continues to honour its deep-rooted connection to the local community. Founded in 1854, Hanley Economic has always been more than just a financial institution-it’s a trusted neighbour, a supporter of local causes, and a champion of community spirit.

A Special Bond for a Special Year

To mark this historic milestone, Hanley Economic launched the Centenary Fixed Rate Bond Account, a unique savings product designed to reward members while giving back to the community. Offering a fixed interest rate of 3.25% over two years, the bond was available exclusively through branches, reinforcing the Society’s commitment to personal service.

What made this bond truly special was its purpose: a portion of the proceeds was donated to local charities, raising £360 to support vital services across Stoke-on-Trent and beyond.

Recognising Our Winners

As part of the bond’s launch, Hanley Economic ran a prize draw for customers who opened the Centenary Bond. This initiative was a way to thank members for their loyalty and celebrate their role in the Society’s success. Winners Mr. G. Tinsley and Mrs. D. Copeland were awarded a £500 cheque at the Biddulph Hanley branch-an event that symbolised the Society’s appreciation for its community.

The prize draw wasn’t just about rewards-it was about recognising the people who have helped shape Hanley Economics’ journey over the past century.

Supporting Local Cause

Beyond the bond, Hanley Economic continues to invest in the community through initiatives like the Hanley at Home Fund, which has awarded nearly £30,000 in grants to charities supporting independent living and financial wellbeing. The Society also exceeded its goal of 170 volunteer days in 2024, reaching 188 days of staff-led community service.

From food bank collections to conservation projects, Hanley Economics’ team is actively involved in making a difference.

Get Creative: Join the Drawing Competition

To further engage the community, Hanley Economic is running a drawing competition open to all ages. Participants are invited to submit artwork that reflects the spirit of Stoke-on-Trent. Entries can be submitted at any branch or emailed to marketing@thehanley.co.uk by 31st August. All submissions should include the artist’s name, age, and contact information.

It’s a fun and creative way to celebrate the city’s centenary and showcase local talent.

Looking Ahead

As Hanley Economic looks to the future, its mission remains clear: to serve its members with integrity, support local initiatives, and continue building a stronger, more connected community. The centenary celebrations are not just a reflection of the past-they’re a promise for the future.
